Last week, Dealscape reported on a possible fake bid for Gold Fields from an unknown dealmaker named Edward Pastorini. Now, the phantom dealmaker has revealed himself via some rather puerile e-mails to the FT's Alphaville bloggers. The web that Alphaville attempts to unravel is a rather tangled one. However, it seems if Pastorini is legit, he could allegedly be related to another known huckster, Theodore Roxford, aka Lawrence David Niren. Roxford reportedly made bids for Zapata Corp. in 2002 and 2003, allegedly in a pump and dump scheme. Interestingly, Pastorini claims to have been involved in the Zapata offers, leading some to conclude Pastorini is Roxford's latest alias.—Matthew Wurtzel
