BAE under the microscope, again

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

BAE Systems plc reported Tuesday the Department of Justice launched an inquiry into allegations that the British defense giant paid bribes to win Saudi Arabian military contracts. The probe comes roughly a week after the interagency Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. approved BAE’s acquisition of defense contractor Armor Holdings Inc. The transaction still needs approval from the DOJ, which is completing an antitrust review of the deal. The BAE announcement was expected after regulatory observers pointed out last week that the DOJ began examining BAE’s bribery issues after the U.K. government called off its own probe. —Ron Orol
