Business 2.0 on the endangered list

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

It really shouldn't shock anyone, but Time Inc. may close tech magazine Business 2.0, according to The New York Times, but the reason may not be as obvious as one thinks. Rather than having to do with its audience defecting to blogs and Web sites like GigaOm, Tech Crunch, Techmeme and Dealscape's sibling Tech Confidential, it may have to do with a recent restructuring at Time, which consolidated Business 2.0's advertising department with the company's other business publications leading to a drop in ad sales.

Business 2.0 joins a growing list of endangered tech publications that include PC Magazine and Ziff Davis Holdings Inc.'s other tech titles. However, unlike Business 2.0, ZD, which recently sold its trade publications, has watched its audience abandon its magazines for the Web. The potential death of Business 2.0 also puts into question the resurrection of Red Herring and Mansueto Ventures' 2005 investment in Fast Company. —Matthew Wurtzel
