Dealscape's predictions

Last month when Huntsman Corp. was put in play, Dealscape suggested a future target for Bassell Holdings BV was Lyondell Chemical Co. After losing Huntsman to rival Hexion Specialty Chemicals Inc., it seems the Dutch chemicals giant has decided to follow that suggestion and agreed to pay $19 billion for the Houston company. The Bassell-Lyondell merger marks the second time in two days that Dealscape speculation has turned out to be true. Yesterday, IHOP Corp. agreed to buy family restaurant chain Applebee's International Inc., which Dealscape also suggested as a possible combination.
