Aug. 10, 2004: Long before Philadelphia and New York state
approved slots parlors, and the state of New Jersey imposed a partial smoking
ban on Atlantic City casinos, Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts Inc., the
precursor to still troubled Trump Entertainment Resorts, was teetering on the
brink of bankruptcy. The problem Trump Hotels was facing three years ago was
its debt load. "The company had been doing well, but we had been paying junk
