GM hit by strike

While its share price may not reflect the labor troubles, General Motors Corp. is facing its first strike in nine years. After the General missed the UAW's 11 a.m. ET deadline, the UAW launched a strike at GM's Lansing, Mich., facility. Shortly after the deadline, CNBC aired live shots of employees driving out of the facility's parking lots while a small group of strikers began to congregate at the gates.

In the ever-weakening American auto industry, neither party can afford a prolonged strike.
