Rather than being outdone by Fox Business News' pending Oct. 15 launch, CNBC is meeting the challenge by introducing CNBC HD. However, anyone hoping to see Maria Bartiromo in crystal clear 720p or 1080i will be sorely dissappointed. According to the Engadget HD blog, CNBC HD, which will first be available on DirecTV, will simply simulcast the standard definition video images on CNBC HD, and instead will use the wider-screen format for additional graphics on the right side of the screen. In other words, CNBC HD will look more like Bloomberg TV. —Matthew Wurtzel
