Murdoch knocked out Schwarzman

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

Seventy-six-year-old media mogul Rupert Murdoch did not literally slug the 60-year-old dealmaker Steve Schwarzman, just figuratively. Following earlier reports on the rumor that OAO Gazprom had considered a bid for Dow Jones & Co., now, speculation surfaces that New York private equity firm Blackstone Group was also one of the 20 potential acquirers that had contemplated making an offer for the business news company. However, it seems Schwarzman's firm was put off by News Corp.'s steep $60 a share offer, which means Rupert Murdoch's attempt to make his bid a knockout worked. —Matthew Wurtzel
