Netflix's fringe rivals merge

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

The Netflix Inc. of porn WantedList has bought the Netflix of independent films GreenCine LLC, according to the blog Alarm:Clock. No price was given for the deal. Alarm:Clock did note that WantedList has been quietly rolling up other fringe online rental services over the last three years. It bought FlickSmart and RentFlixxx in 2004 as well as Video Takeout and Flick Central. However, its paltry offering of primarily adult films makes it no serious threat to Netflix for now. However, should it seek out a fringe rival to online game rental leader GameFly Inc. such as Gamerang or Gameznflix Inc., then the company could develop an offering of products that might prompt a Netflix response — namely an acquisition of GameFly. —Matthew Wurtzel
