Sen. Kerry accepts Pickens' challenge

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., whose 2004 presidential campaign was torpedoed by critics of his Vietnam War record, announced Friday he has personally accepted billionaire T. Boone Pickens' offer of $1 million to anyone who can disprove any of the charges of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Earlier in the month, Pickens, who funded the Swift Boat Veterans campaign, reportedly issued the challenge at a gala to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the American Spectator, according to The Associated Press. Sen. Kerry, who sent a letter to Pickens and the AP, has promised to share documents with the oilman to prove the Swift Boat Veterans were not truthful, and promised to donate the $1 million to the Paralyzed Veterans of America. — Matthew Wurtzel
