Greenspun unveiled as Zell's right-hand man

Newly anointed media magnet Sam Zell, who just closed the deal to privatize Tribune Co. Thursday, found an investor for his new company that knows a thing or two about newspapers.

Brian L. Greenspun, the owner and editor of the Las Vegas Sun, made a significant investment in Tribune, according to the Los Angeles Times, a unit of the Tribune Co. The LA Times says Greenspun is the only outside investor that Tribune's new CEO Zell permitted to invest in the company, but the stake 61-year-old Greenspun has taken has not been revealed. Greenspun is also the only newspaper executive that Zell appointed to Tribune's board of directors. Greenspun said in a telephone interview with the LA Times that it was "significant enough to command a good portion of my time and attention, but not so large that it will in any way interfere with what Sam Zell wants to do." — Gerald Magpily
