The most colorful deal news Tuesday is undoubtedly IAC/InterActiveCorp saying John Malone's Liberty Media Corp. has "gone off the deep end" by launching a law suit in an attempt to take control of the company.
Press reports quoting court documents said Liberty launched a suit in Delaware on Monday to try to oust Diller and six other directors from the board of the IAC/InterActiveCorp Internet conglomerate. IAC put out a statement calling the suit "preposterous."
Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd.-Quintana Maritime Ltd. In fresh deals, dry bulk shipping company Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd. said it will buy Greece-based Quintana Maritime Ltd. in a $2.45 billion deal. Quintana last week had canceled its auction, saying it hadn't attracted a price or contract that it liked. Consol Energy Inc.-CNX Gas Corp. In the U.S., coal company Consol Energy said it plans to offer to buy the 18% stake of gas exploration company CNX Gas that it does not already own for about $932 million. Bayonne Medical Center In bankruptcy news, bankrupt Bayonne Medical Center was scrambling Monday to work out a deal that could double its $41.6 million sale or even dampen this week's long-awaited closing. Tousa Inc.
