Alan C.W. Tang of Grant Thornton LLP expounded on the challenges of brokering a restructuring deal in China at The Deal/TMA's Distressed Investing Conference 2008.

Tang warned potential investor that finding the decision maker can be even more difficult than finding the best deals.

"For Westerners investing in China, the process of decision-making will be sometimes confusing, if not frustrating, [since] negotiations are never straightforward," Tang said. "One of the worst things, in my view, is the influence, if not intervention, of the government."
