Motorola
Inc. has tapped another private equity pro as an executive -- and while
the last tango with a PE pro in the company's C-level suites was
disastrous, this dance could earn some applause.
The troubled Schaumburg, Ill.-based telecom equipment maker, which is
reportedly considering asset sales, hired Paul Liska, a former
industrial partner at MidOcean Partners, CVC Capital Partners and
Ripplewood Holdings LLC. Prior to entering private equity, he held the
CFO titles at Sears and St. Pauls Cos., according to a 2004 Movers & Shakers item from TheDeal.com.
While some blogs speculate that his PE experience will translate into asset sales, it's worth noting that industrial partners are in fact management specialists, not dealmakers. In other words, he's PE's equivalent of a "fixer," that is someone who goes in and cleans up a mess. And oh what a mess Motorola is in following the tenure of Ed Zander, formerly of private equity shop Silver Lake, as CEO. - Matthew Wurtzel See story from BloggingStocks See story from Deal Journal See stories about Ed Zander from TheDeal.com See prior Motorola stories from Dealscape See prior Motorola stories from Tech Confidential See prior Motorola stories from Corporate Dealmaker Categories![]() Deal Video
