The Deal this week focuses on hedge funds. Ron Orol takes a look at how hedge funds have fared in the volatile markets that began last summer. His conclusion: While returns across the board have fallen (varying by strategy and, of course, by fund), money continues to pour into them, and their numbers continue to increase. Orol also tackles a profile of a young Chinese woman running a hedge fund in China.
Vyvyan Tenorio talks to Glenn August, the president of Oak Hill Advisors, to see how one of the most sophisticated investors around is coping with these difficult markets. That interview is a fascinating tour d'horizon of all things distressed. Also in the package: Rene Cordes in Brussels asks whether hedge fund activists will continue (she thinks they will) and David Marcus examines the gestating issue of empty corporate voting. Elsewhere in the issue, Jamie Mason analyzes the role environmental claims play in bankruptcy, while our in-house wine guy, Chris Nolter, reports on exactly what it takes to buy and run a vineyard. His answer: a lot. Unless you've got the money, the time and the patience, just drink the stuff. - Robert Teitelman See The Deal newsweekly channelSee The Deal newsweekly story on the current hedge fund climate See The Deal newsweekly with Glenn August See The Deal newsweekly story on hedge funds in Europe See The Deal newsweekly story on hedge funds and voting See The Deal newsweekly's bankruptcy feature See The Deal newsweekly's feature on the wine industry Categories![]() Deal Video
