Leading off The Deal next week: a Q&A conducted by our own Alain Sherter, who presides over Tech Confidential, with David Eun, the chief of what Google Inc. calls "content partnerships." Eun, a veteran of new media with Time Warner Inc., Arts Alliance and Bain & Co., offers a sophisticated view of the world from his perch at the dominant force online (for now), and the greatest destabilizing threat to offline. (Next week we'll have video up on that interview.) Elsewhere in the issue, we roll out a Special Report on Deal Lawyers, a gallery of eight individuals from various precincts of the deal business, legal division. In our due-diligence section, we take a hard look at private equity in the middle market (tough at the top, not bad further down), at various schemes to recapitalize and save the bond insurers, and at the trans-Atlantic cooperation that accompanied the Reuters Group plc-Thomson Corp. merger. And our bankruptcy feature looks at a complex Arizona case in which the judge has had to play an unusually aggressive role.
