Federal Trade Commissioner Bill Kovacic is likely to hear Wednesday that he's the new chairman of the antitrust agency replacing outgoing chair Deborah Platt Majoras (pictured at left). The White House is expected to make the long-expected transition official. Since he's already been approved by the Senate, no further action is necessary.

Majoras had more than one foot out the door as she arrived at the Spring Meeting of the American Bar Association's Antitrust Section. She's moving in June to Ohio to work at Proctor & Gamble. In the meantime, Majoras is not handing out her old business cards, "because they won't do you any good after three days!" She'll have the title of general counsel, reporting to P&G's chief legal officer, Steven W. Jemison.
Meanwhile Kovacic's wife, Kathy Fenton, a lawyer at the prestigious antitrust firm Jones Day -- where Majoras was a partner -- this year leads the ABA's antitrust section, where Kovacic is also scheduled to speak. It's a very close-knit group. - Cecile Kohrs Lindell
