There may be personal connections that could play a role in a Time Warner Cable Inc.-Cablevision Systems Corp. deal as blog NewsVisual points out. However, there are other longstanding forces pushing these companies toward a potential deal, and timing is everything.
Jeff Bewkes took the helm at Time Warner Inc. in January and is under pressure to simplify the media house's complex portfolio. One easy move would be to spin out more of Time Warner Cable. If the cable outfit had greater independence from Time Warner, buying Cablevision would be a tempting way for the company to grow. Cablevision's roughly 3 million cable subscribers in the New York area are highly profitable and would be coveted by other operators in the area, namely Comcast Corp.
Plus Cablevision's ruling family, the Dolans, pursued the company for nearly two years before gaining support from the board in May only to be rejected by shareholders in October. However, Pali Capital Inc. analyst Richard Greenfield suggested in a Monday note that the Dolans are now leaning away from a cable divestiture. "Given that we believe the Dolan family has no interest in selling CVC to Time Warner Cable or any other potential buyer and that it is now focused on utilizing its building free cash flow for a series of acquisitions," Greenfield wrote. - Chris Nolter and Maria Woehr See the NewsVisual personal connections surrounding the deal See The Deal's Special Report on Jeffrey Bewkes See The Deal's analysis of the Dolans privatization of Cablevision CategoriesComments
From: Figgy,
I oversee sales activity in Time Warner Cable's primary payment center and on a professional level, I am salivating at the chance to offer our brand of cable services to the poor unfortunate souls who have to subscribe to Cablevision. The internet aside, which is remarkable, their service in terms of TV and telephone is nothing in comparison to our array of service offerings. Personally speaking, I am unforuntately a Cablevision subscriber. I am not a customer by choice, I have no Verizon in my area and I am forced into Cablevision service. Ironically, I have never paid for service because I had my complimentary service from Time Warner but now that I pay for Cablevision service, I actually watch less cable television because everything from the channel lineup to the DVR is terrible. In addition, their customer service is nothing short of terrible. A Time Warner takeover of Cablevision would be everyones wet dream.... trust me!

If Time Warner Purchase Cablevision, this will be a great deal for Cablevisions customers. Time Warner has lots to offer with their on demand service and better channel line up. Cablevision is lacking on lots of channels in many area's. I feel that everytime the NY knicks lose..my Cablevision bill gets higher.
