Novartis International AG-Nestle SA-Alcon
Topping headlines out of Europe Monday morning, Swiss drug company Novartis will acquire Nestle's majority stake in eye-care company Alcon in two steps, beginning with the sale of a 25% stake in Alcon to Novartis for around $11 billion.

Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francais-Geodis SA
Meanwhile, French state rail operator SNCF on Sunday launched a €1.1 billion ($1.7 billion) bid for former state-owned logistics group Geodis. SNCF already owns 42% of the group.

Advent International
In private equity news, Advent International has closed a €6.6 billion fund, which it purports to be the world's largest midmarket fund.

LBO France-Apax Partners-Maisons du Monde
French buyout shops LBO France and Apax Partners have agreed to buy home wares group Maison's du Monde from Barclays Private Equity for an undisclosed price. The group has sales of €233 million.

Exponent Private Equity LLP-Lowell Holdings Ltd.
Exponent Private Equity and existing management have acquired Lowell Holdings, the specialist debt purchasing company, from a fund managed by Cabot Square Capital for undisclosed terms, thought to be between £150 million and £200 million ($298 million to $398 million).

Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc-Banco Santander Central Hispano SA
RBS on Friday sold its European consumer finance business with assets of €2.2 billion, to Santander.

Suez-Chongqing Water Group
And French utility Suez said it had paid $214 million for a 15% stake in Chinese water company Chongqing Water Group.
