Eos follows fellow luxury-service provider MAXjet Airways Inc. into bankruptcy. Dulles, Va.-based MAXjet suspended operations on Dec. 24, and filed for Chapter 11, although it could be reborn as a charter airline under new owner NCA Sports Group, a carrier that focuses on college sports teams and their fans. Rival luxury-airline Silverjet plc of London, which offers all-business class from its home base to both Newark Liberty International Airport and Dubai International Airport, remains in operation.
Traditional airlines are suffering as well. Eos joins Frontier Airlines Holdings Inc., Skybus Airlines Inc., ATA Airlines Inc. and Aloha Airgroup Inc. as recent casualties in the U.S., with all but Frontier ceasing operations.
