In Linens 'n Things prepack talk, all roads lead back to Apollo

LinensNThings.jpgA lot of interest was stirred by a murkily sourced story in the New York Post suggesting Linens 'n Things Inc. was heading for a prepack bankruptcy filing.

While it's pretty clear Linens, a portfolio company of Apollo Management LLP, is faring poorly, signs of a prepack are tough to find. One thing is clear, however. Apollo, which has a lot of expertise in distressed matters, would probably handle the restructuring itself.

One restructuring adviser who contacted Apollo for possible assignment reported being rebuffed by the firm.

"Apollo has traditionally done its own deals because they're distressed people and feel they're capable of handling any restructuring by themselves," said the adviser. "Being Apollo, they also insisted they [Linens] were doing well." - Terry Brennan
