A director at Heckmann Corp., a blank-check company formed in November, Holtz's talk was light on specifics about running a special purpose acquisition company but instead focused on the characteristics that allow individuals and businesses to succeed.
"I always felt like I was running a major business at Notre Dame," said Holtz. "Every company has two purposes -- satisfy the customers and satisfy the stockholders. If we're going to satisfy the needs of the customer, you need to change. Embrace change as long as you're meeting the needs of the customers. Too many people will not embrace change because it disrupts their comfort zone."
Holtz's speech was primarily focused on the importance of having people committed to the company's vision.
"The most important thing is what the attitude of the people in the organization is," he said. "I don't care what kind of opportunity your SPAC company has; it doesn't matter unless your people are totally committed to seeing the things through," Holtz said.
And to the delight of the bettors in the room, Holtz picked the Dallas Cowboys to win the next Super Bowl. - George White
