Merger mumbles continue for Societe Generale

AddThis Social Bookmark Button
Takeover rumors for Societe Generale SA are resurfacing now that Daniel Bouton handed the role of CEO over to Frederic Oudea, formerly finance director and deputy chief executive at the bank.

Societe General seemed to be a natural target for rival BNP Paribas SA, but apparently BNP's CEO is now saying a merger would not create value and the company is not likely to bid any time soon. A tie-up of BNP Paribas and Societe Generale would elevate the combined company to the status of the second-largest bank in Europe. - Maria Woehr
