Update on Citigroup possible divestments

There are a couple of updates on last week's speculation that Citigroup Inc. may sell its German retail operations unit, Citibank Deutschland, within the next few months.

First, Deutsche Bank AG, which is the oft-named bidder for Citigroup Deutschland, is set to raise €9 billion ($14 billion) to finance acquisitions. Additionally, Deutsche Bank's Juergen Fitschen confirmed that the German bank is interested in acquiring parts of Citigroup's German operations if they are indeed up for sale, according to a Forbes story. However, Deutsche Bank's shopping list may not be limited to Citibank Deutschland, but may also include Duetsche Postbank AG, according to a Times of London story.

Also, Citigroup may sell its Citigroup India commercial vehicle finance business unit, according to India's NDTV Profit. - Maria Woehr
