Sprint Nextel Corp. said it would consider divesting noncore assets in an earnings call on Monday. The wireless carrier did not specify what operations it might consider tangential.
Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. analyst Chris King suggested that could include wireless towers, which Sprint Nextel could sell and lease back, and real estate holdings. Sprint Nextel would likely consider offers for larger businesses such as its long-distance business or the operations that belonged to Nextel Communications Inc. But King suggested those businesses would probably be considered core parts of the Overland Park, Kan., telecom's business. A spokesman would not say whether Sprint Nextel had hired bankers. - Chris Nolter See Dealwatch: Sprint Nextel Categories![]() Deal Video
