Busch family divisions show in light of InBev offer

budweiser_longnecks_on_ice.jpgAs the Anheuser-Busch Cos.' board supposedly met this Friday to finally discuss the $46 billion takeover bid made by InBev SA, family member Andrew Busch told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he opposes the sale.

Andrew Busch, the uncle to CEO August Busch IV, said that he supports "Anheuser-Busch in efforts to remain a strong company headquartered in St. Louis," according to the Post-Dispatch. The comments put Andrew Busch at odds with another family member, Adolphus Busch IV, August's brother, who announced he was in support of the sale.

One option is definitely off the table for Anheuser-Busch, and that is a bid by SABMiller plc, according to AFX. SABMiller CEO Graham Mackay told a German newspaper, "It would be 'very difficult' for SABMiller to intervene in the takeover, regardless of the price." - Maria Woehr
