LiveTV, as its name suggests provides television and video entertainment during flights, will use Airfone's systems to expand its e-mail and messaging offerings.
Verizon stepped down Airfone's business in 2006, when the government
put the company's ground-to-air spectrum licenses up for auction.
LiveTV was among the winners.
In exchange for its spectrum, Airfone received a five-year license
for a smaller swath of wavelengths. It continued to provide services to
corporate and government aircraft, and to operate a network of base
stations.
The news sent Verizon shares up slightly and JetBlue shares down slightly in afternoon trading. - Chris Nolter
