Costine had managed Bear Stearns' not-for-profit healthcare practice since 1992. Previously, she headed Kidder Peabody's health and higher education finance group for more than a decade.

Previous to Bear Stearns, Luria worked at Merrill Lynch. He has served as a principal banker for entities such as Partners HealthCare System, the Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, and the New Jersey Health Care Facilities Financing Authority.

Around 10,000 of the 14,000 Bear Stearns employees were let go due to the bank's sale to J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. At the time of the acquisition, CEO Jamie Dimon requested that Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch & Co. and Credit Suisse Group management not poach Bear Stearns employees until after the deal was complete, and Bear employees were told they had to give the contractual obligatory 90-days notice before resigning.

Bear Stearns CEO Alan Schwartz, who allegedly was offered a vice chairman position at J.P. Morgan, has not decided if he will stay at the firm. He is also supposedly considering offers from private equity firms such as Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.

Due to the massive layoffs on Wall Street. Many other investment bankers are also considering transitioning to private equity, hedge funds or dealmaking -  Baz Hiralal
