IBC avoids liquidation

Judge swats aside Alpine PCS license argument
A bankruptcy judge ruled Thursday that the Federal Communications Commission can go ahead and auction six personal communications broadband licenses once held by wireless service provider Alpine PCS Inc.
Judge S. Martin Teel Jr. of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia in Washington denied Alpine's request to prevent the FCC moving forward with the auction by enforcing the automatic stay of its Chapter 11 filing, according to an Alpine attorney. -- Ben Fidler

Western Nonwoven sells assets
The bidding took 14.5 hours for multiple sets of assets before bankrupt Western Nonwovens Inc. generated $12.25 million in two separate competitive auctions. Judge Peter Walsh in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware in Wilmington then approved the separate $11.2 million and $1.05 million sales at a hearing Wednesday, Aug. 20. -- Terry Brennan

Coudert Bros. plan confirmed
A New York judge has confirmed the Coudert Brothers LLP plan of liquidation, which gives unsecured creditors of the law firm between 39% and 100% recovery. Judge Robert D. Drain of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan confirmed the plan on Tuesday after objections were overruled. -- J.M.
