The Manhattan District Attorney charged Stuart Ross and his lawyer,
Stuart Jackson, with one count of attempted grand larceny in the second
degree and one count of grand larceny in the third degree, according to Reuters.
The DA said that Ross demanded $50,000 from Blitzer, who works at the Blackstone's London office, starting in June,
but by this month had raised his demands to $11 million. Jackson and
Ross had threatened to ruin Blitzer's life, personally and
professionally, unless they were paid off. The Reuters story did not
say if the two had any evidence of impropriety on Blitzer's part.
However, Blitzer did file an $11 million civil lawsuit against his
accused blackmailers on Friday in New York State Supreme Court,
accusing Ross of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from him in
a "relentless campaign of harassment and threats" against Blitzer and
his family.
