Pitt to Alabama?

Harvey Pitt appears to be the latest financial sector bigwig to take a specialized post in government, according to Investment News. The chief executive of Washington consulting firm Kalorama Partners LLC and former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission has been named deputy attorney general of Alabama.

Pitt will assist the state's investigation of naked short selling, in particular reports by Colonial BancGroup Inc. of Montgomery, Ala., that it has been the victim of short selling fueled by negative rumors about the company.

Pitt's helping hand for Alabama follows the decision by Goldman Sachs Group Inc.'s M&A adviser Ken Wilson to work as a consultant for the U.S. Treasury Department. Unlike Wilson, however, Pitt won't be giving up his lucrative private sector post. - Bill McConnell
