Bank Watch: Heavy lifting

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story
After the Dow plunged below the 10,000 mark Monday, the markets started lifting on news that the Federal Reserve eased credit for businesses and the central bank said it was creating a special facility to help the commercial paper market. Even though the market has eased up on banks, some didn't get off to a good start Tuesday morning. International banks felt the heat Tuesday as Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc sank more than 30%, while Lloyds TSB and Barclays plc lost more than 10% on news that the banks were seeking public funds. Bank of America Corp. also took a hit Tuesday morning after reporting that third quarter earnings fell by 68%. -Maria Woehr
