Stocks were spared as progress on bailout talks continued in the Senate and news that a vote on the revised bill will be held Wednesday night. The day ended with the Dow down 19.59, the Nasdaq down 22.48 and the S&P 500 down 5.30.
Banks ended in the positive. Financial stocks rallied; even National City Corp. climbed 63%.
