  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story
The stocks doubled back after Friday morning's losses. The Dow plunged 697 points, falling below 7,900 in the first five minutes of trading. The Dow ended down 128.00 at 8,451.19, the Nasdaq was up 4.39 and ended at 1,649.51, and the S&P 500 was down a point pulling in the day at 899.22.

The market Friday left investment banks Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Morgan Stanley ailing. Shares tumbled on rumors that Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. might back out of its investment in Morgan Stanley. There were also concerns that the two banks might be downgraded by Moody's Investors Service, according to CNN.  Some banks pulled through. J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp. and Citigroup Inc. jumped ahead even as Citi backed away from its deal from Wachovia Corp. - Maria Woehr
