Hong Kong's high-profile crisis task force meets Nov. 3

HongKongMoney.jpg Hong Kong's Chief Executive Donald Tsang announced plans to convene a task force on economic challenges on Nov. 3 to increase the city's international competitiveness in response to the "global financial tsunami."

The 10 members include some veteran dealmakers. They are:
  • Stephen Roach, chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia;
  • Mervyn Davies, chairman of Standard Chartered plc;
  • Victor Fung, chairman of Li & Fung Ltd.;
  • Margaret Leung, group general manager and global co-head of commercial banking at HSBC Holdings plc;
  • Lawrence Lau, vice chancellor and president of Chinese University of Hong Kong;
  • K C Leong; chairman of Roctec Futures Trading Co. Ltd.;
  • Ayesha Macpherson, KPMG partner;
  • Shih Wing-ching, Centaline (Holdings) Co. Ltd. chairman;
  • Patrick Wang; chairman and CEO of Johnson Electric Holdings Ltd. and chairman of Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute; and
  • Mathias Woo, executive director of Zuni Icosahedron.
David Burton, head of the Asia and Pacific department of the International Monetary Fund, will attend the first meeting.

Bloomberg noted Hong Kong's stocks climbed for the first time in six days as investors took advantage of the lowest valuations since the Asian financial crisis a decade ago. - Baz Hiralal
