AlexisDeRosnay.pngIn a boost to its European advisory business, on Tuesday afternoon investment bank Lazard said it hired Alexis de Rosnay (pictured) as a vice chairman of Lazard International and as a senior member of the firm's global financial advisory team, effective Nov. 12. De Rosnay, 41, joined Lehman Brothers in 2004 and became head of global healthcare banking last year. Earlier, he served as head of European healthcare as well as other positions at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. He began his investment banking career in 1990 at Rothschild Inc. in Paris and London. At Lazard, he'll focus on healthcare and large-cap, European and cross-border transactions.

Georges Ralli, chief executive of Lazard European Investment Banking; Kenneth Jacobs, head of Lazard North America; and William Rucker, CEO of Lazard London and deputy CEO of Lazard's European Investment Banking business, all praised de Rosnay as an expert healthcare banker.

Rightfully so. Here are some deals de Rosnay has advised on:
  • Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. on the acquisition of Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc.,
  • Aventis SA on its sale of HR Vet,
  • Dako Denmark A/S on its sale to EQT,
  • Novartis AG on its acquisition of NeuTec,
  • Celltech on its sale to UCB SA and
  • the merger of Hoechst AG and Rhone-Poulenc SA.
De Rosnay is the latest high-profile Lehman banker to leave in a long line of moves.

Separately, Lazard also announced that George Bilicic rejoined the firm as chairman of the power, utilities and infrastructure sector and as a senior member of the firm's North American financial advisory business. Bilicic, 45, rejoins Lazard from leveraged buyout firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., where he was a managing director and head of infrastructure.

Bilicic originally joined Lazard as a managing director in 2002. Previously, he was a managing director at Merrill Lynch & Co. and a partner at New York law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, which he joined as an associate in 1989. - Baz Hiralal
