However, with all the money will come a little grief too. Media reports
surfaced last Friday that Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig
doesn't want Cuban to own the team. The
Chicago Sun-Times reported that
Cuban has a "zero chance" of buying the team. Making his first public
remarks since the reports came out, Cuban didn't take anything to
heart. "There's no reason to comment on anonymous comments from
unsolicited sources," he said. "I mean it's ridiculous."
Cuban, who
writes his own blogs on the Mavericks Web site, has not made any
specific comments about his progress in the sale process. "Nothing's
changed," he said. "I mean it's a great opportunity." One other thing
is for sure: If the entertainment entrepreneur does pull out from the
auction, it will be an even greater opportunity for the bidders that
includes John Canning Jr., Tom Ricketts and Sports Properties
Acquisition Corp. because the asking price may fall below $900
million.
