Nokia's Bowden on corporate M&A

The Deal's M&A Outlook 2009 conference kicked off Tuesday morning with a panel of top dealmakers who offered some forecasts about what the landscape may look like in 2009. Panelist and corporate dealmaker Bruce Bowden, the global head of M&A at Nokia Oyj, said that his company has been able to capitalize on the market turmoil thanks to a balance sheet that lets it acquire companies for cash.

"The lean winter kind of favors the strong," Bowden said. "On the buy side, we're open for business.

"We do see an opportunity here to differentiate ourselves going forward," he continued. "There's a flight to quality. We do still see sticky prices. Sometimes we're still willing to do the deal at reasonably high price, and sometimes we're not." - George White
