Bank Watch: Analysts trim forecast for Morgan Stanley's 2009 profit

Stocks sagged Thursday. The Dow was down 12.50 at 8,811.84, the S&P 500 decreased 0.38 to 904.04, and the Nasdaq fell 2.23 points to1,577.08. Financial stocks were mixed.

Morgan Stanley is still in the green even after analysts trimmed their profit view of the bank in 2009. Wednesday the bank announced a $2.37 billion quarterly loss. American International Group Inc. was slightly down. Reports are that Sun Life Financial may acquire some assets from the insurer. BB&T Corp.'s stock is down. CEO John Allison will retire quietly at the end of this month. The bank's board of directors also announced the 2009 first quarter dividend of 47 cents per share. - Maria Woehr
