Bank Watch: Financial stocks slammed by analysts' outlooks

Financial stocks were slammed Wednesday. Overall, the Dow plummeted 245.40 points to 8,769.70, the S&P 500 fell 28.05 points to 906.65, and the Nasdaq slipped 53.32 points to 1,599.06.

Wells Fargo & Co. stock was down. The bank named Robert Engel and Jonathan Weiss to oversee its investment banking and capital markets business. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Morgan Stanley stocks sank after Sanford Bernstein cut their 2009 earnings outlook by 3%. J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.'s stock slipped after Oppenheimer analyst Meredith Whitney predicted it will write down $3.4 billion in the fourth quarter. - Maria Woehr
