Bank Watch: Citi may divest more assets; AIG receives bids

Stocks got off to a slow start Monday. The Dow sunk 125.21 points to 8,473.97, the S&P 500 slipped 20.09 points to 870.26, and the Nasdaq fell 32.80 points to 1,538.79. Financial stocks ended the day in the negative.

Bank of America Corp.'s shares are down. Charlie Gasparino wrote a blog for The Daily Beast, and apparently the integration of Merrill Lynch with BofA isn't going peachy keen after all. American International Group Inc. received first-round bids for its aircraft leasing unit and could announce a sale of assets of less than $1 billion this week, according to CNBC. State Street Corp. shares slumped after Credit Suisse Group analyst Howard Chen reduced his 2009 earnings-per-share estimate to $4.80 from $5. Citigroup Inc.'s shares are down on reports that the bank may explore further asset sales after divesting its Smith Barney retail brokerage unit to Morgan Stanley. The report by Reuters says Citi is likely to have a tough time finding buyers. - Maria Woehr
