Markets were down Friday on reports that the GDP dropped 3.8% in the fourth quarter and more bank
bailout chatter. The Dow was down 62.21 at 8,086.80, the S&P 500 slid 7.09 to 838.05, and the
Nasdaq slipped 10.53 points to 1,497.31. Financial stocks opened up mixed.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc.'s and Morgan Stanley's stock both opened up Friday morning. The Wall Street Journal is
reporting that Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs could be laying off more staff. Citigroup Inc.
opened positive and then dipped on
reports that the bank is operating under greater restrictions because it is under a regulatory agreement. Meanwhile, Citigroup's creator Sandy Weill
will be off the bank's payroll in April. American International Group Inc.'s stock is up on
reports that the insurer could take units public as part of its restructuring. Regions Financial Corp.'s stock is down on the reported
$5.6 billion loss in 2008. Sovereign Bancorp Inc.'s shareholders OK'd
the bank's merger with Banco Santander SA.
