Dodd schedules Schapiro's confirmation hearing

Chris_Dodd.jpgSenate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (pictured) is wasting no time in moving President-elect Barack Obama's financial services nominees ahead for confirmation. On Wednesday Dodd scheduled a hearing for Jan. 15 to review key economic policy nominees including Mary Schapiro, who is expected to head the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Among other things lawmakers are expected to question Schapiro about is whether she plans to press for the combination of the SEC and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission.

Also scheduled to testify before the committee is Daniel Tarullo, who is designated to join the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System, Christina Romer, who is designated to chair the Obama administration's Council of Economic Advisors, and two other members of the economic advisory committee. - Donna Block
