Duel between Congress and Geithner looms

Posted on January 29, 2009 3:26 AM
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is only a week or two away from asking Congress for another $1 trillion or more to help shore up the U.S. financial system. He also appears to be on a collision course with lawmakers over how any new funds will be used and what requirements the recipient institutions will face.

Geithner said Wednesday that Treasury officials are "looking at a range of options" for new support programs and that their plan will be unveiled "relatively soon."
