The New York Times reports that federal prosecutors acknowledged in a court
order released Monday that Madoff's lawyer, Ira Lee Sorkin, is
"engaging in discussions concerning a possible disposition of this
case."
A plea bargain was likely the game plan for Madoff's lawyers from the
start. Although investigators are still trying to sort out the full
scope of the alleged fraud, convincing a jury that it was all a
misunderstanding will be a tall order for any lawyer. The FBI
reportedly already has a confession of the Ponzi scheme from Madoff
himself, and the high profile of the case has made Madoff's name known
far and wide. But with prosecutors likely holding all the cards and
public outrage at a fever pitch, chances are that even with a plea bargain, the 70-year-old investor will still live out the rest of his
days in a jail cell. -

Ruined lives, lost jobs, lost money, and even leading to the known suicide of one "investor".. How is he still in his home free? How are his Sons not implicated?? This is a perfect example of the rot that is occuring in this country.
