Cuomo subpoenas BofA's Lewis

Posted on February 20, 2009 5:15 PM

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has subpoenaed Bank of America Corp. chairman and chief executive Kenneth Lewis as part of an investigation into the bank's purchase of Merrill Lynch & Co., according to news reports.

The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News reported on Thursday that Lewis was questioned on the acquisition as part of the probe into whether the bank violated New York state law by withholding information from investors. Both news outlets cited people familiar with the matter.
Lewis is the highest-profile subject yet of Cuomo's probe of Bank of America's purchase of Merrill Lynch of New York.
