NOT A SUBSCRIBER?Hearst may sell, shut SF ChroniclePosted on February 25, 2009 4:49 PM
Hearst Corp. said Tuesday it may sell or shutter the San Francisco Chronicle if a cost-cutting campaign centered on reducing staff does not result in savings within a few weeks.
The news comes days after two newspaper groups filed for bankruptcy and nearly two months after Hearst put the Seattle Post-Intelligencer on the block with a 60-day mandate to find a buyer or pursue other options, including going digital-only, cutting staff or shutting down the paper altogether.
