Nortel to slash 3,200 more jobs

Phone equipment maker Nortel Networks Corp. said Wednesday it will eliminate 3,200 more jobs, withhold employee bonuses in 2008 and end stock-based compensation as part of its effort to exit bankruptcy protection.

The Canadian company, which has never recovered from the bursting of the tech and telecom bubble in 2000, had already announced two rounds of job cuts totaling 3,400 positions in the past year. In a statement Wednesday, Nortel said 1,800 of those job cuts still have to be carried out, and the 3,200 new layoffs will be in addition to those actions
