At The Deal LLC's Healthcare Dealmaking Symposium Tuesday morning, Buddy Gumina, a partner at buyout firm Apax Partners, commented on the Obama administration's plans for healthcare reform.
"Big picture, this is too good of a crisis to waste," Gumina said, borrowing from Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel's famous quip.

"Washington looks at this as a way to fix some of the things that have been waiting to get done for a long time," he said. "Baby boomers have seen their assets drop by 50%, and they are going to be pushing for reform as they start to consume more healthcare."
Gumina also predicts far more regulatory oversight of the HMOs.
"There's going to be an increase into transparency; it's going to be pushed significantly, and you're going to see real pay-for-performance metrics out there, where real money is at stake depending on the quality of care," Gumina said. - George White
