Astellas drops CV Therapeutics bid

Japanese drugmaker Astellas Pharma Inc. abandoned its $1.1 billion hostile bid for CV Therapeutics Inc. on Monday after the target reached a deal with rival Gilead Sciences Inc.

Astellas decided to withdraw its $16-per-share tender offer after CV agreed to Gilead's $20 per share, or $1.4 billion, takeover on March 12, Tokyo-based Astellas said in a statement.
